I helped former Intel Executive Vice President Albert Yu pen his memoirs about the semiconductor powerhouse.

"On November 22, 1994, CNN carried a worldwide story saying that the Pentium processor had a flaw, and the press rushed in. Calls and Internet stories exploded, and we pulled hundreds more people away from their normal duties to handle the flood of phone calls. People worked day and night all the way through the Thanksgiving holidays to handle the inquiries . . . After much intense internal discussion and debate about what to do, we finally realized that whether or not we thought the erratum was significant was not important. Our end-customers thought it was, and that was all that mattered. We had to replace chips with no questions asked, assuring consumers that Intel stood behind its products . . . It was a painful rite of passage, but we had finally learned how to behave like a consumer company . . ."
